                                                                         Rules

The following general rules and policies apply to our baseball program.  They are important to the advancement of you and our
baseball program.   Since it is impossible to cover every point in a statement of policy such as this, you are expected to conduct
yourself at all times in a manner that will reflect credit upon your teammates, the program you represent, your family, and
yourself.

1.        Drugs, alcohol, and tobacco are prohibited
2.        Respect your opponent: win with humility-lose with dignity
3.        Be careful of your language.  Absolutely no obscene words, or gestures
4.        Do not throw bat, helmet or glove in anger or disgust with his performance or a decision that goes against him
   or the school
5.        Everyone will run everything out with 100% effort
6.        Wear appropriate practice attire (pants, shirt, hat)
7.        Wear your uniform with pride.  Jersey tucked in, hat worn forward
8.        We will wind sprint ON and OFF the field
9.        Once we start the game, there is absolutely no communication with the opposition.  We are all business, with only
one intent, and that is to win.
10.       You must go to school and satisfy the school’s policy regarding discipline, grades, attendance, and eligibility
standards.  I except baseball players to be above those standards and set high goals.
11.        Everyone on the team will help with gear.  All equipment will be put up before anyone leaves a practice or a
    game.
12.        It is your responsibility to be on time for all practices, meetings, games, and any other baseball appointment.
13.        Players are expected to be at all practices and stay for its entirety.  Players will also be expected to work on the
     field daily if necessary.
14.        All players will stay in the dugout or on the field during and between    games.
15.        There will be no conversing with the fans during the game.  You must remain focused.  Coaches and players will
be available for questions after practice and games: NOT DURING!
16.        You will travel to and from practice and games with the team.  Be gentlemen on all our trips.  Double check
     equipment before you leave.
17.        FAILURE TO ABIDE BY THESE RULES AND RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INTERFERE WITH PLAYING TIME.
Expectations

The Baseball Team at Royal Valley High School is composed of three parts: coaches,
parents, and players. It is the responsibility of these three groups to represent Royal
Valley High School in a positive manner.  We must work together as one to maintain pride
in the school and to provide a lifetime education for the players.

EXPECTATIONS OF COACHES

1. Represent our school and program with class, professionalism and sportsmanship.

2. Positively promote our school and program to the school staff, student body and
community with every opportunity.

3. Be early for everything.

4. Help the players be successful on and off the field.

EXPECTATIONS OF PARENTS

1. Positively support your son in his academic and athletic endeavors.

2. Demonstrate good sportsmanship at all times.

3. Help your son to win with class and lose with dignity.

4. Maintain realistic expectations for your son.

EXPECTATIONS OF PLAYERS

1. Represent our school and program with class and sportsmanship.

2. Be on time to all classes and team functions.

3. Be responsible for yourself and your teammates.

4. Be respectful of everyone you meet at home and away.

5. Follow the school and team athletic code to the letter.  NO EXCEPTIONS!
                                                  Attendance Policy

Players will not be excused from practice, meetings, or games except for injury (if being treated or seen by a
doctor), home emergency, or extra academic help. In such a case, Coach Ternes must be informed by the
player or parent prior to the absence. Spring Break should not be a concern for a committed Baseball player.
Please plan family trips during the first part of the week.

1st  Infraction:  Verbal Warning. Extra cardiovascular encouragement and a missed start
could also occur.

2nd Infraction:  1 game suspension.

3rd  Infraction: Expelled from the team.

If a practice is missed the player will not start in the next game.  If the missed practice occurs the day before a
game, the player will not play in the next game.

*The Head Coach reserves the right to evaluate and judge each isolated case.

                                                      Letter policy

Players that significantly contribute at the varsity level and are committed to building a tradition for Royal Valley
High School Baseball in the manner outlined by the Head Coach will earn a letter. The following point system
ultimately determines whether a player letters. To earn a letter, a player must earn 100 or more points by
meeting all or select criteria.

50% or more of the innings played                                                                      50pts
No unexcused absences from any Baseball related activity/event                10pts
Participation in a Fall/Winter Sport (or 85% of Winter Workouts)                   10pts each
Enrollment in a Weight Training Specific Class                                                20pts
Summer Program participation (summer prior to season)                            20pts
Fundraising (raise $100 or more for program in various fundraisers)         10pts
Coach’s Discretion                                                                                                 +/- 10pts

* In addition, players must finish the season in good standing. The Head Coach reserves the right to award
letters to any player he feels has made a significant contribution to the varsity team.
                                                                       Philosophy

Varsity:  We will be playing to win at the varsity level.  Players that show the level of skill, work ethic and desire to
play will be rewarded for their hard work.  Not all players will receive the same amount of playing time.

Junior varsity:  I look at junior varsity as a growing opportunity.  Players that have good work ethic and a desire to
improve will be rewarded with playing time.  Not all players will receive the same amount of playing time, but all
players will get plenty of innings to grow in their skill levels.
Five Components of a great team:

1. Player Commitment
2. Quality Coaches
3. Parent Support
4. Adequate Funding
5. Adequate Facilities
